Everyone wants to have energy and endurance to exercise, work, and play. To do this, we must stay active and eat right. Exercising to build fitness is not the same thing as working out to improve athletic performance. Eating the right foods help achieve these goals. A common question people ask is "Should I eat before I exercise?" The answer is that it depends on the person's diet and their individual body needs. There are key diet rules for different kinds of activity. The ideal time for you to eat your pre workout meal is an hour before you start. If you plan to work at a low intensity level, you should keep your pre workout meal down to 200 calories or so.
If you plan to exercise at a high level of intensity, you will probably need your meal to be between 4,000 and 5,000 calories. When you eat and what you eat can affect your performance and the way you feel during your workout. Coordinate your meals, snacks and fluids to make the most of your exercise routine. Anytime you exercise, you do so in order to try and maintain good health. You also know that you have to eat as well, so your body will have the energy it needs to exercise and maintain for the everyday tasks of life. For making the best of your exercise, what you eat before and after you workout is very important.
When you exercise after a large meal, you can feel sluggish or have an upset stomach, cramping and diarrhea. That's because your muscles and your digestive system are competing with each other for resources. Limit dietary fat to 20 to 25 percent of your total calories. Fat is hard to digest and tends to sit longer in your gut. The time between dinner and breakfast is very long. The body needs to be refueled after 12 hours. Anyone in good physical shape who eats a balanced, high-carbohydrate diet can safely meet the demands of a short (1 hour) exercise session before breakfast. However, when the body is low on fuel, the risk for fatigue and injury increases for everyone.
